Upcoming Shows

Planning a season of shows will help potential actors and production people time to prepare for auditions and plan their volunteer activities with SVP. It also alerts our audience to the fantastic theater they can experience here in Stoughton.

Reading and recommending shows is the work of the Play Reading Team, with final decision by the SVP Board of Directors. Many factors go into selecting a show including: cast size, number of parts for men and women, cost of production, audience and community preferences.

Play On Selected for Fall, 2008

The SVP Board approved the comedy Play On as the production for next fall. The Play Reading Team headed up by Jean Gohlke, has been hard at work reading, discussing and prioritizing shows to recommend. According to a summary from Samuel French Company, Play On is the hilarious story of a theater group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty authoress who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does. When the authoress decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax to a thoroughly hilarious romp. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter. The show will be directed by Fran Furillo, SVP member and director of Love, Sex and the IRS in October, 2007

March 2009

The Stanway Case In this unique psychological thriller, written by Sam Bobrick and to be staged in March 2009 by SVP, two stories unfold simultaneously in the same space but in different time frames. Maura and Scott, a couple, meet while serving jury duty on a murder trial and get romantically involved with each other. As their relationship develops, they discover they adamantly disagree on what the verdict should be. They also realize that each is not the person the other thought they were. At the same time their story is being played out to it's frightening climax, Jan and Tom, another couple who have just met, weave through their unusual relationship that strangely enough has ties to the same murder case. "A wonderfully crafted story, the mind-bending plot keeps you on the edge to its chilling denouement".

"Absorbing. Keeps us on the edge to its chilling denouement.''-LA Weekly.

"Scintillating and tantalizing. Drama and sensationalism at a surrealistic level with a mind-bending plot.''-Tolucan Times

"Lively, entertaining and intelligent. A delectable and delicious play with some genuine surprising twists.''-NoHo L

"Wonderfully crafted.... Delectable.''-Valley Star
